The Highest Remaining Bible Translation Needs
As of Oct. 1, 2025, there are 561 remaining Vision
2025 languages waiting for Bible translation to
start — the lowest in history! We rejoice at the
progress that’s been made and celebrate with
every language community that now has active
translation work underway.
Four areas in particular have more needs than
anywhere else in the world: East Asia, Indonesia,
Papua New Guinea and the global Deaf.
Historically, each of these areas has represented
150 or more language communities waiting
for Bible translation to begin for the first time.
Together with our partners, concrete plans
are already in development to begin Bible
translation in approximately 400 of these
remaining languages. The remaining 150
represent the most difficult languages, and we
are prayerfully considering new strategies to
engage these communities as soon as possible.
But that’s changing! Just two years ago, these
areas represented more than 800 languages
with remaining translation needs. Now they
represent fewer than 400 — a decrease of more
than 50%!
ith more than 840 known languages, Papua New Guinea (PNG) is the
country that has the most languages in the world. Because of this
linguistic diversity, PNG has always been counted among the areas with
the highest remaining Bible translation needs.

But today, Papua New Guinea is on the cusp of seeing Bible translation
begin for every language still waiting. Only 111 languages remain
— and that significant milestone in history will be a direct
result of decades of prayer and the faithful obedience
of agencies and local churches who have stepped up
to say, “We want the Bible in our own language for
our community! And we’re willing to
do the work, together.”
